You'd be hard-pressed to find better mulled wine. This is an Östgöta mulled wine, with the basic recipe coming from Colonel Cleas-Erik Abramson in Östersund.
1. Place figs, prunes, raisins, almonds, bitter orange peel, cinnamon, cardamom, and clove in a saucepan.
2. Pour over the pilsner and boil until the pilsner has almost boiled down.
3. Pour over the brännvin.
4. Add granulated sugar, taste.
5. Let the mulled wine get really hot. It must never boil. The lid must close tightly.
6. Heat a frying pan and add a few tbsp granulated sugar. Brown carefully until the outer edges begin to solidify and turn beautifully brown. Do not burn.
7. Pour in the browned sugar and cognac. Light a match and flambé the mulled wine for a few seconds. Put on the lid and let stand overnight without heat.
